Meet Mr. Barker!
Mr. Barker was born and raised in the Atlanta area growing up on Buford Highway, in Doraville, and is a product of the DeKalb Co. School System. His first year and half of college was at the University of West Georgia, before finishing his B.A. in Sociology at Georgia State University. GSU is also where he received his M.A.T. in Social Studies Secondary Education through the TEEMS program. He completed his M.Ed. for Administration and Policy at the Gwinnett Campus of UGA.
Mr. Barker began his teaching career as a substitute teacher in Dekalb and Fulton County, before becoming a Social Studies teacher at Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Dekalb County. After spending 4 years at MLK, he joined the Westlake High School team as Social Studies teacher and department chair. Mr. Barker taught a variety of subjects in Social Studies including World History, American History (on level and AP), Economics (on level and AP), International Affairs, Sociology, Constitutional Law, and his favorite Economics.
